As human beings, we all experience trauma at some point in our life. However not all of us develop PTSD. Trauma is not defined by the incident. It lies in our response to an event and is a subjective experience. Sometimes there is shame associated with symptoms of trauma, as we judge and invalidate our painful experiences. It is important to know that trauma happens on a spectrum. Trauma can result from experiencing sexual or physical abuse, witnessing or experiencing a terrifying incident, combat or any other event that impacts our ability to respond effectively to it. Trauma can also be the result of bullying, loss, neglect etc. Regardless of the experience, our therapists have extensive experience in treating trauma and work from both top-down and bottom-up approaches to help clients alleviate symptoms like panic attacks, nightmares, flashback, depression/ anxiety and many more. We utilize a variety of approaches from evidence based to cutting edge, novel modalities including: Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Brain spotting, Internal Family System (IFS), Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) and Somatic Experiencing.
